Please tell us if you're attempting to play these movies from a file on your hard drive, or from a cd/dvd. Your cd/dvd rom could be bad, and can lock up your system when it tries to read the cd/dvd.

Also, have you installed anything lately with the cd anti-copy protection called "Starforce"? It can cause things to happen like you describe.

Hey Flammer ... just to know, have you try another stick (s) of ram in your comp ? ... 1 of my friends had problems with his comp locking up when watching videos, he had 2 gig of ram, he did a test with 512 ram Kingston, and his prob is gone.

When you look at processes taskmgr.exe should only use up the cpu cycles for a short time. It is the program that executes when you do 'ctrl alt del' but its use should fall off within 15 seconds of launch. Lockups can be caused by any number of things, but aside from virus and adware problems ram is the most common. Did you purchase the correct speed ram for this CPU, is it a single stick or is it 2 512MB sticks, are you overclocking either the processor or video card, have you altered any of the bios settings, are you running any other programs when this happens?

You probably should have checked the codecs while you were at it and btw I hate Media player, give this one a try if your wanting all the fancy stuff(deinterlacing, different aspect ratios, surround sound, streaming video, etc). Its bug free to my knowledge to and you dont have to pay a thing for it and you dont have to shell out extra for it to do all the fancy stuff like you do with other players because you always have to get another plugin that costs you more.

Anyways you can check it out at www.videolan.org

Use KAspersky to scan and clean your computer. I use it and it's really great, I like a lot cause ti helped so much to keep my computer clean. If you want it you can get it from here: http://www.trustdownload.com/Antivirus-and-Spyware-Cleaners/Antivir...
